The International Arctic Science Committee (IASC), in cooperation with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS), is launching its IASC Fellowships Program 2024. The application deadline is on 18 October 2023 at 13:00 GMT.
The IASC Fellowship Program is meant to engage early career researchers in the work of the IASC Working Groups (WGs):
- Atmosphere WG (AWG),
- Cryosphere WG (CWG),
- Marine WG (MWG),
- Social & Human WG (SHWG)
- Terrestrial WG (TWG).
In addition to the work in the IASC Working Groups, the Fellows will also be engaged in the work of the Research Priority Teams for the 4th International Conference on Arctic Research Planning Process (ICARP IV).
For the 10th anniversary year of the IASC Fellowship Program in 2024 we will offer 10 IASC Fellowships. As part of the Polar Initiative with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, three of those Fellowships will be generously funded by the foundation.
- one regular IASC Fellow will be selected per IASC WG (5 Fellowships in total)
- one IASC Indigenous Fellow will be selected; this individual will be an early career Arctic Indigenous Scholar or Knowledge Holder who can choose which IASC WG to engage in. The IASC Indigenous Fellows will also join the new IASC Standing Committee on Indigenous Involvement that will commence its work in early 2024.
- three IASC-PA2F Fellows will be selected who can choose which IASC WG to engage in.
Another fellowship offered is the IASC-ROADS Fellowship which has a separate application process. The Sustaining Arctic Observing Network (SAON) has initiated the Roadmap for Arctic Observing and Data Systems (ROADS) as a planning framework to support its national and organizational partners. In partnership with IASC these efforts are offering an IASC-ROADS Fellowship to support an early career researcher to get more involved in the work of SAON-ROADS.
The deadline for applications for all fellowships is 18 October 2023 at 13:00 GMT. Find out more about the Fellowships and how to apply for them on the IASC website and APECS website.
